POM POM FRENZY

It's not enough that we have trendy shoes, trendy hair styles, trendy decor colors (Pantone says it's turquoise!), and trendy hem lines. There are trendy party decorations too. Last year, it was the chinese lantern. Weddings had them, anniversaries had them, parties for one-year-olds with helicopter mommies had them. But 2010 is the year of the pom-pom. They're everywhere, hovering over baby showers like so many miracle-grow fed cherry blossoms, or turning up at weddings, dangling off pews like over-sized coconut balls. But they're popular for good reason:  inexpensive, adaptable, and they come in every size! What could be better? Here's your inspiration -

Much nicer than the ones I think most of us made as kids; especially for Mother's day.

They look so fund with the lanterns too.

There's a wedding tradition here in Santa Fe, which looks quite like this trend:
the car which carries the bride/groom is covered with pom poms - made of bright tissue paper, which matches the color of the bridesmaid dresses.

It' actually rather TackyWonderful!

They are lovely but putting them together is not for those without a crafting bone in their body (me!). I spent hours fluffing up some for a bridal shower a couple months ago . . .

They look fabulous! I would never have thought of pompoms for decor. Now I just need an excuse for a party...

This is one of those things that I want to love because it is so simple and pretty, but I hate jumping on the trend-wagon. Why do they have to be so darn cute?

Cheerleading for grown-ups???

They are just so fun and whimsical and no guilt if you decide to give them the toss after awhile.

My daughter has a big round paper light under her reading chair and I must say it works great.

Wonderful images and ideas!

I remember making pom poms for my teacher's wedding back in grade 3. How fun to see them back! They are like little bursts of colour and delight!

I LOVE pom poms! Last summer, I purchased some from Martha Stewart's line, and hung them inside a white tent for my Grandparent's 50th Anniversary. They looked lovely, so much so, I didn't have the heart to take them down for a few months...

Thanks for the new inspiration and different ideas, Skyla!

I love how MS styles pompoms in some of those tablescape photos (and she seems to be the one really pushing them, but then again she sells pompom craft kits..).
