Dana Downgrades For An Upgrade

People (fashion people) said Dana Buchman was savvy when she signed a deal with Kohl's for a discount line - and that she was mad when she simultaneously shuttered her upscale department store line. Who is crazy now? Barney's is in the bailout, Macy's is manic, and Saks is sliding... Kohl's? Doing great. Opening new stores. And promoting and selling lines, like Buchman's.

Finances aside, I've been curious to see how her designer's eye would fare. No matter how involved the designer, lower lines often lose that special touch. Overall, I'd give Buchman at Kohl's three of five stars for design, and five of five for price. Not bad.
